At the European Football Championship, England came closer to their first major title since 1966. Thanks to the 2-1 after extra-time against Denmark, the Three Lions are in the final.

The goals in Wembley Stadium, which was sold out with 60,000 spectators, were scored by Mikkel Damsgaard (30th minute), Simon Kjær (39./ET) and Harry Kane (103./FE). It was a deserved success for England in a tight, somewhat tough semifinal. The crucial scene sparked discussions.

Palpation here and there dominated the first half an hour. Both teams preferred safe moves to the last risk. Due to the solid free-kick hit under the crossbar, directly transformed by Damsgaard, the game gained speed. It was the first goal for the English at this tournament.

After Raheem Sterling initially missed the chance to make it 1-1, an own goal by Kjær after Bukayo Saka’s sharp cross provided the deserved equalizer. Instead of Kjær straddling next to him, Sterling could have scored the goal in five. It was already the eleventh own goal at this European Championship.

English doesn’t meet – except for Kane.
The Three Lions increased the pressure in the second section and temporarily constricted the tired Danes in their half. But in front of the gate, the Southgate-Elf acted too inefficiently and unfocused. In addition, they always found their master in goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The second semifinal of the European Football Championship 2020 also went into overtime, as was Italy – Spain (4: 2 on average). The English sparked a real power play towards Schmeichel’s goal. Then referee Danny Makkelie (Netherlands) whistled a foul penalty, a controversial decision: Harry Kane only scored in the margin after Schmeichel had parried the penalty. The Danes, who revived their offensive, braced themselves in vain against the narrow defeat.
